[Theory] Just What Was That Diamond Explosion?

We all know Yellow Diamond, Blue Diamond, and White Diamond caused an explosion when all gems fled the Earth. It was a desperate final attack to try and get rid of the rebellion once and for all. But some gems didn't make it. Many gems didn't make it. And they became corrupted.

We know that corruption is corruption of the mind, but what do you think that means? This diamond explosion literally ruined gems and turned them into monsters. What kind of attack does that? Why would the explosion have this kind of effect on gems? Wouldn't you think an explosion would shatter the gems? Why would you want to corrupt them rather than shatter them?

There is thought that this explosion was the death of Pink Diamond. What do you think? Do you think this blast obliterated her? Or do you think it was an attempt to obliterate her (possibly Rose Quartz)?

I saw an interesting theory about this on Tumblr.

If you go back and listen to the music that is playing during Yellow Diamonds appearance, Blue Diamonds appearance, Lapis flashback in Same Old World, and finally during Centipeedles drawings flashback, there's this eerie accordion sounding theme that plays.

The versions in Same Old World and Moster Buddies are pretty much the same as these.

Someone theorized that this eerie tune could have a connection to the Diamond's blast. It would make sense for a certain sound to corrupt the minds of the Gems, considering how some sounds can so easily drive humans crazy. Its the same concept.

I want to take that one step further and wonder that, if the blast does turn out to be some kind of song or sound that the Diamonds use to basically drive whatever Gems hear it crazy, what if it's like a combination of all the Diamond's themes? Notice how Yellow and Blue Diamonds theme, while very similar, have small differences to them. What if once combined (along with White Diamond's theme too) they create a sound that travels on a certain frequency or has some kind of wave pattern that essentially drive Gem insane?

It's all theory but that would be pretty interesting if it was true.

I must admit that this is an interesting theory. The Diamond themes are rather unsettling to listen to. It is different and a tad bit strange to think a noise could turn gems into monsters. I always imagined the explosion to be a huge blast of energy that corrupted them. The noise heard with it I figured was more to signal that it's the Diamonds, not so much the noise being responsible for the corruption, you know?

It's definitely not beyond the Crewniverse to do that since the show is so heavily music-focused/sound-focused.

That was something else I saw yeah. It was another completely different theory that the blast of energy that corrupted all the Gems was the energy released upon Pink Diamonds death. And that's also why there is no more Russia in the SU world lol.

I still personally think Pink Diamond was Rose, or I hope at least lol, but I'm not sure. It's completely plausible that Pink Diamonds death released so much energy to it corrupted all the Gems on Earth. I mean, the Diamonds are big and powerful and I'm sure their deaths are not quiet lol

I'm still on board with Rose Quartz being Pink Diamond, too. Because I feel like, if Pink Diamond was involved with the war somehow, we would've heard about it Nobody has mentioned Pink Diamond anywhere. At all. The only other reason I could think of as to why was because Rose Quartz killed her and they just don't speak of it. But that might be the only other theory I can get on board with.

That's interesting to think the death of Pink Diamond caused the corruption. I don't think that's out of the realm of possibilities.

Jasper yelling for Sapphire to stop singing could have been more of an aggressive self preservation rather then annoyance, since she was apart of the war on Earth, she likely saw the effects of the Diamonds’ song first hand.

This also reminds me of something someone pointed out before about Jailbreak. In Jailbreak, Sapphire was singing as a message to Ruby/ the Crystal gems to find her. (Remember, she has future vision so she saw that Ruby and Steven would find her if she did this.)

Jasper didn’t punch a wall and yell at Sapphire to stop singing just to be mean. She was specifically cutting off Sapphire’s mode of communicating with the others.

Songs could also have codes in them, think of that.

Yes that's true. I forgot about how they're light constructs. How do you think that'll play in with their corruption/healing process?

well, thay are sick in the mind. and steven made progress with ceti healing, i think because made friends with her, it was therapy.
