Shojo or Shonen

What is your favourite genre of manga/anime, shojo or shonen? Answer below with why!

Pokemon, Digimon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, DBZ/DB, Beyblade, Metabots, Tenchi Muyo, etc.

And then I think I just ended up preferring shonen after awhile because it's usually adventure. However, I do love the direction anime and manga are going with their magical girl stories, so I definitely won't write them off.

You didn't state what you preferred though and why!

I use to prefer shonen as a kid, watching all the action ones and I still do like some of it, I just prefer magical girl series so that's where I lie with Shojo. The rest of Shojo can bugger off I don't like it for the most part lol

I kinda like both and within those I have sub-genres that I prefer. I tend to enjoy most shoujo but I usually stick to magical girl or something thats like modern fantasy (kinda like Kamisama Kiss) or stuff like Fushigi Yuugi or Kanata Kara (girls getting throw into distant past/magical lands). For shoujo it tends to be the usual action/comedy type series like Dragon Ball or One Piece. I think about the only genre I never really get into is either super bloody dark series or horror.

Honestly, I didn't really get into shoujo very much (mostly because I've never been into mushy-gushy romances like Ouran High School Host Club), yet the first manga series I ever picked up was Otomen from Shojo Beat. I've never really gone by genre, but I enjoy all genres equally, so long as the story and art style are appealing.

I love Shonen, but Shoujo is my guilty pleasure.

I've recently been reading Astro Boy by Osamu Tezuka, and I've been using his style as a base to draw faces (the only thing I'm fairly competent at drawing). I love his cartoony style.

So I'm kind of all over the place when it comes to manga and anime xD My favorite anime is Fairy Tail, but my favorite manga is D. Gray-Man. Both are Shonen.

I really am getting into Idol anime. I watched most of Prince-sama and am working on Idolm@ster right now. I also LOVE magical girl anime because they usually have the good messages about you know teamwork and loving yourself and all that good stuff, but there are some magical girl animes that start off that way and then take a REALLY dark turn and just completely 180 the story and I really like that xD Like, Sailor Moon has really good messages too it but the manga is pretty dark when you think about it. The anime really made it PG-13 of course but Naoko is a little twisted you gotta admit xD

Then there's Madoka, and holy crap Yuki Yuna is a Hero. Omg Yuki Yuna is DARK. It starts off all cutesy and typical magical girl style but halfway through it takes a really dark turn and becomes a total mind bender and it's pretty freaking fantastic xD

I guess you could say I like manga and anime that have darker themes to them and really make you think. But I will say I love typical Shojo romance too because of my shippers heart

I'm not sure if yaoi/shonen-ai would fall into this thread or not, but do any of you guys read or watch that? Junjou Romantica, Gravitation, etc.

I watch some of it not a whole lot though.

There's this one mecha anime I've been trying to watch, but for the life of me I couldn't locate it on any decent streaming site. Anybody heard of "King of Braves: GaoGaiGar"?

I've actually been watching the Netflix version because the team that worked on ATLA/LoK is doing this Voltron series. It is quite good. @Brit-chan has been watching it too and has introduced me to it (she actually introduces me to a lot of crap and needs to stop )
