I propose a game of a different sort. A
poetry game.
The poetry is called
haikai no renga, and there is no objective. This is a form of Japanese poetry that dates back to the Middle Ages, when poets would spend hours drinking sake and composing verses on various subjects. A good example in translation can be found here:
http://simplyhaiku.com/SHv5n1/features/Arntzen.htmlRules:
Do not let the syllable count run past seventeen for three line verses, and fourteen for two line verses.
Spend at least two to three verses on a subject before shifting to another. When you do shift, do it as smoothly as possible.
Here's an example:
PQ: Even in death/her shrill voice follows--/winter winds.
Garnet: Tree laughing/over weathered headstone.
SR: Trickling, trickling/over and under the words/rain or tears?
Bgal: Plum blossoms shedding scent/submerged in a pool.
And so on, etc.
My goal is for us to come up with at least ten verses to start out. I will provide the first three lines, and the next poster will have to enter two, followed by another with three, etc, etc. Here we go:
Even in death
her shrill voice follows--
winter winds.
