Steven Universe 3/18 Steven vs. Amethyst

So what did you think of Steven vs. Amethyst?

It wasn't what I was expecting, tbh. I was expecting it to be more, angsty I guess but I'm glad it wasn't. I don't want Amethyst to fall to pieces. But, I don't think this episode fixes how she's been feeling. A good light fix but not the end all.

Yeah, I'm disappointed with the episode. With all the hype and things, and mentions of an Amethyst arc.. this really fell flat in that regard, in my opinion!

It had a lot of great highlights though, and if I hadn't been expecting something with more substance, I would probably be very happy with this episode! I mean there was PEARL POINTS and PEARL PRIZE POUCH and Amethyst's adorable ponytail! And bonding between Amethyst and Steven, <3

But I guess I expected too much and feel let down a little at the moment xD I look forward to watching the episode again in a few days when I have disconnected myself from it a little bit.

I'm in agreement with this. Because Amethyst's pains are too heavy to be tackled purely like this. That's why I'm hoping for more of her. More depth, more emotions in later episodes. She needs a lot of work and a lot of space to work out her problems. So my hope is that this is a stepping stone episode.

I think my extra disappointment comes from the fact that Amethyst's troubles are something I've been equating to depression, and as someone who has suffered from severe depression for many years now, I was kind of hoping to see it be resolved in the same heartfelt and realistic way that SU has been known to do.

But who knows, maybe this will show up again. Like you said, this is too much to just be over this easily. And I think maybe this slow crescendo, the pretending to be happy, the actually believing that things might be better but not actually fixing any of the problems - maybe all of that makes it kind of realistic after all.

This episode was interesting to say the least. Not what I expected at all. It's nice to see Steven connecting a little with Amethyst though. I think their connection will be key in helping Amethyst overcome her self loathing and depression.

I think this because Steven mentioned that he knows what she's going through in a sense because he's not Rose. I can imagine Jasper continuing to call Steven by his moms name has got to have some bad effects to his psyche, and I think his misery over being expected to be like her but not being her, will help him navigate Amethysts internal turmoil. I don't think he'll be able to fix her entirely, by at least he will be able to provide the same love and comfort that Rose provided her in the past, since her compassion was something Steven inherited. Steven is more like Rose than he realizes and I think that will come to play when Amethysts arc comes to its climatic peak. I mean just look at the amount of healing he helped Pearl accomplish with Greg. He didn't fix them by any means but he was key in jump starting their recovery.

I hate to break it to you Pearl but you cannot "ruin" ruins xD
